Resonance

The title Resonance for this series refers to something an artist/musician friend said about my work. She commented that the interactions of the elements – color, texture, shape, line–and the shifts between quiet and active areas evoke the way that one musical sound can energize another as vibration. That insight led me to think about how the relationships among these elements visually reinforce and activate one another. But resonance has an emotional aspect, too–that intuitive connection we can sense when encountering something meaningful. I experience this in the New Mexico landscape that inspires my images, and in the act of painting, and is something I hope to communicate to others.
